I want leadership training for my team. Is a half-day workshop enough?

Start with what's happening on your team
When someone tells me they want leadership training, my first question is what's going on with the team. Each of these needs a different approach:
- Managers are avoiding difficult conversations
- Expectations aren't clear
- Employees feel unheard
- Talented people are struggling to lead without a formal title
What people need to actually change
People need more than information. They need to:
- Understand the behavior
- Practice it
- Get feedback
- Use it in their actual work
That takes intentional planning, even in a shorter session.
What a good half-day workshop looks like
- One central outcome. For example, courageous conversations: why leaders delay them, a practical approach, and practice with realistic situations.
- Something to take away. People leave with language they can use and a conversation they're prepared to have.
- Breathing room. A break, and enough discussion time to connect the material to their own teams. Squeezing a whole leadership curriculum into four hours leaves little room for learning to become useful.
Plan the follow-through
- Each person names one action, a completion date, and someone who will check in with them.
- A manager discussion or follow-up session shows what worked and where people still need support.
Half-day workshop or longer program?
| A half-day workshop is a strong investment if… | Make it the start of a longer plan if you need to… |

| Your team needs a focused reset or one shared skill | Develop new managers, rebuild trust, or change habits across the organization |
Windy's perspective
My years in corporate leadership and my work through Pivotal Solutions have taught me that people need more than information. This fits the practical spirit behind my book, MOVE: Pivotal Solutions for Your Life. Progress requires taking a step, then continuing to work on what comes next. Choose the outcome first, then give the learning the time and reinforcement it needs.
